先师桂林吕公(gong)闇斋言,其(qi)乡有(you)(you)官(guan)邑(yi)令(ling)者(zhe)(zhe),位任之(zhi)(zhi)日,梦(meng)其(qi)房师某(mou)公(gong),容色(se)憔悴,若(ruo)重有(you)(you)忧者(zhe)(zhe),邑(yi)令(ling)蹙(cu)然迎拜曰:旅榇未归(gui),是诸弟子之(zhi)(zhi)过也,然念之(zhi)(zhi)未敢忘,今(jin)幸(xing)托荫(yin)得(de)一官(guan),将拮据营窀穸矣。盖某(mou)公(gong)卒(zu)于戍所,尚浮昔僧院(yuan)也。某(mou)公(gong)曰:甚善,然归(gui)我(wo)(wo)之(zhi)(zhi)骨,不(bu)(bu)如归(gui)我(wo)(wo)之(zhi)(zhi)魂(hun),子知我(wo)(wo)骨在滇(dian)南,不(bu)(bu)知我(wo)(wo)魂(hun)羁于此也。我(wo)(wo)初为(wei)此邑(yi)令(ling),有(you)(you)试恳污莱者(zhe)(zhe),吾(wu)误报升科,诉者(zhe)(zhe)纷纷,吾(wu)心(xin)知其(qi)词(ci)直,而(er)恐干吏议,百计回护,使不(bu)(bu)得(de)申,遂至今(jin)为(wei)民累,土神诉与(yu)东岳(yue),岳(yue)神谓事由疏舛,虽无自(zi)(zi)利之(zhi)(zhi)心(xin),然恐以检举妨迁(qian)擢,则其(qi)罪与(yu)自(zi)(zi)利等(deng),牒摄(she)吾(wu)魂(hun),羁留于此,待此浮粮减免,然后得(de)归(gui)。困苦饥(ji)寒,所不(bu)(bu)忍(ren)道,回思一时爵禄,所得(de)几何,而(er)业海茫茫,竟杳无崖岸,诚不(bu)(bu)胜泣(qi)血椎心(xin)。今(jin)幸(xing)子来官(guan)此,傥念平生(sheng)知遇,为(wei)吁请蠲除,则我(wo)(wo)得(de)重入转轮,脱离(li)鬼趣,虽生(sheng)前遗蜕,委诸蝼(lou)蚁,亦非所憾矣。邑(yi)令(ling)检视旧牍,果有(you)(you)此事,后为(wei)宛转请豁,又(you)恍惚梦(meng)其(qi)来别云。
交河及(ji)方言曰:说鬼(gui)(gui)者多诞,然亦有(you)理似可信者,雍正乙卯七月,泊舟静海之(zhi)南,微月朦胧,散步岸上,见(jian)二(er)人坐柳下对谈(tan),试往就之(zhi),亦欣然延坐。谛听所说,乃皆(jie)幽冥事,疑其为鬼(gui)(gui),瑟(se)缩欲遁,二(er)人止之(zhi)曰:君勿讶,我等非鬼(gui)(gui),一走(zou)无(wu)(wu)常(chang),一视(shi)鬼(gui)(gui)者也。问(wen)(wen)何(he)以能视(shi)鬼(gui)(gui),曰:生而如是,莫知(zhi)所以然。又(you)问(wen)(wen)何(he)以走(zou)无(wu)(wu)常(chang),曰梦寝中忽被拘役,亦莫知(zhi)所以然也。共(gong)话至二(er)鼓(gu),大(da)抵缕陈报应。因问(wen)(wen)冥司以儒理断狱(yu)耶?以佛理断狱(yu)耶?视(shi)鬼(gui)(gui)者曰:吾(wu)能见(jian)鬼(gui)(gui)。而不(bu)能与(yu)(yu)鬼(gui)(gui)语(yu),不(bu)知(zhi)此事。走(zou)无(wu)(wu)常(chang)曰:君无(wu)(wu)须问(wen)(wen)此,只问(wen)(wen)己心(xin),问(wen)(wen)心(xin)无(wu)(wu)愧,即(ji)阴(yin)律所谓(wei)善,问(wen)(wen)心(xin)有(you)愧,即(ji)阴(yin)律所谓(wei)恶,公是公非,幽明一理,何(he)分儒与(yu)(yu)佛乎?其说平易,竟不(bu)类巫觋(xi)语(yu)也。
里有(you)(you)视(shi)鬼(gui)(gui)者(zhe)(zhe)曰:鬼(gui)(gui)亦恒憧(chong)憧(chong)扰扰,若有(you)(you)所(suo)营,但不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)知(zhi)所(suo)营何(he)事,亦有(you)(you)喜怒哀乐(le),但不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)知(zhi)其(qi)(qi)何(he)由。大抵鬼(gui)(gui)与(yu)(yu)鬼(gui)(gui)竞(jing),亦如(ru)人与(yu)(yu)人竞(jing)耳。然(ran)(ran)微阴不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)足(zu)敌盛阳,故(gu)莫(mo)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)畏(wei)人,其(qi)(qi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)畏(wei)人者(zhe)(zhe),一(yi)由人据所(suo)居,鬼(gui)(gui)刺促不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)安,故(gu)现变(bian)相(xiang)驱之(zhi)(zhi)去;一(yi)由祟人求祭享(xiang),一(yi)由桀骜强魂(hun),戾(li)气未消,如(ru)人世无(wu)赖(lai),横行为暴,皆遇气旺(wang)者(zhe)(zhe)避,遇运蹇者(zhe)(zhe)乃敢侵。或有(you)(you)冤(yuan)魂(hun)厉魄,得请于神,报复以申(shen)积恨(hen)者(zhe)(zhe),不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)在此(ci)数(shu)。若夫欲心所(suo)感(gan),淫鬼(gui)(gui)应(ying)之(zhi)(zhi),杀心所(suo)感(gan),厉鬼(gui)(gui)应(ying)之(zhi)(zhi),愤心所(suo)感(gan),怨鬼(gui)(gui)应(ying)之(zhi)(zhi),则(ze)皆由其(qi)(qi)人之(zhi)(zhi)自(zi)(zi)召,更(geng)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)在此(ci)数(shu)矣。我(wo)尝清明(ming)上冢,见游女踏青,其(qi)(qi)妖媚弄姿(zi)者(zhe)(zhe),诸鬼(gui)(gui)随(sui)之(zhi)(zhi)嬉笑,其(qi)(qi)幽(you)闲贞静者(zhe)(zhe),左右无(wu)一(yi)鬼(gui)(gui)。又尝见学宫有(you)(you)数(shu)鬼(gui)(gui),教(jiao)谕鲍先(xian)生出--先(xian)生讳梓,南宫人,官献县(xian)教(jiao)谕,载(zai)县(xian)志循吏传。则(ze)瑟缩伏草间。训导某先(xian)生出,则(ze)跳掷(zhi)自(zi)(zi)如(ru),然(ran)(ran)则(ze)鬼(gui)(gui)之(zhi)(zhi)敢侮与(yu)(yu)否,尤视(shi)乎其(qi)(qi)人哉。
侍(shi)姬之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)母沉媪(ao)言,盐(yan)山有刘某(mou)者,患癃(long)闭,百药不(bu)验。一夕,梦神语(yu)曰:铜头(tou)煅灰(hui)酒服之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)即通。问铜头(tou)何(he)物(wu),曰:汝(ru)辈所谓蝼蛄也。试之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)果愈。余谓此湿热(re)(re)蕴结,以湿热(re)(re)攻(gong)湿热(re)(re),借其(qi)窜利下行之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)性耳(er)。若州都之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)官,气不(bu)能化,则求之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)于本(ben)原,非此物(wu)所能导也。
梁铁幢副(fu)宪言,有(you)夜行者于竹林边(bian)见一(yi)物,似人非(fei)人,蠢(chun)蠢(chun)然摸索(suo)而(er)(er)行,叱之不应,知为精魅,拾(shi)瓦石击之,其(qi)物化为黑烟,缩入林内,揪(jiu)揪(jiu)作(zuo)声曰:我缘(yuan)宿业(ye)堕饿鬼道(dao)中,既瞽且聋(long),艰(jian)苦(ku)万状,公何忍复相逼。乃委之而(er)(er)去。余滦阳消夏录中记王(wang)菊庄所言女鬼,以巧于谗构受哑(ya)报(bao),此(ci)鬼受聋(long)瞽报(bao),其(qi)聪明过甚(shen)者乎?
先(xian)(xian)(xian)师(shi)汪文端公(gong)言,有(you)(you)欲谋害异党者,苦无善计,有(you)(you)黠者密(mi)侦知之,阴裹(guo)药(yao)以(yi)(yi)献曰(yue):此药(yao)入(ru)腹即死,然死时情状,与病卒无异,虽蒸骨(gu)验之,亦与病卒无异也(ye)。其人大喜,留之饮(yin)。归则以(yi)(yi)是(shi)夕卒矣。盖先(xian)(xian)(xian)以(yi)(yi)其药(yao)饵之为灭(mie)口(kou)计矣。公(gong)因太息曰(yue):献药(yao)者杀人以(yi)(yi)媚人,而先(xian)(xian)(xian)自杀也(ye)。用其药(yao)者,先(xian)(xian)(xian)杀人以(yi)(yi)灭(mie)口(kou),而口(kou)终(zhong)不(bu)可灭(mie)也(ye)。纷(fen)纷(fen)机械何为乎?张樊(fan)川前(qian)辈时在坐,因言,有(you)(you)好娈(luan)童者,悦一宦(huan)(huan)家(jia)子(zi),度无可得理,阴属(shu)所爱(ai)姬(ji)托媒(mei)妪招之,约(yue)会于别墅,将执而胁污焉,届期闻(wen)已(yi)至,疾往掩(yan)捕(bu),突(tu)失足堕荷塘板桥下,几于灭(mie)顶(ding),喧呼掖出,则宦(huan)(huan)家(jia)子(zi)已(yi)遁,姬(ji)已(yi)鬓(bin)乱钗横矣。盖是(shi)子(zi)美秀,甚姬(ji)亦悦之故也(ye)。后无故开阁放(fang)此姬(ji),婢妪乃稍泄(xie)其事。阴谋者鬼神所忌(ji),殆不(bu)虚矣。
卖花(hua)者顾媪,持一(yi)旧磁器求售,似笔(bi)(bi)洗而略浅(qian),四周(zhou)内外(wai)及(ji)底皆(jie)有(you)盷色,似哥窑(yao)而无冰纹(wen),中(zhong)平如砚,独露磁骨,边线界画甚明,不(bu)出入毫发,殊非剥落,不(bu)知何(he)器,以(yi)(yi)无用还之(zhi)。后见广(guang)异(yi)志(zhi),载嵇(ji)胡见石室(shi)道士案头朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)笔(bi)(bi)及(ji)杯语(yu),乾巽子载,何(he)让(rang)之(zhi)所见天狐有(you)朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)盏(zhan)笔(bi)(bi)砚语(yu),又逸史载叶法(fa)善有(you)持朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)钵画符语(yu)。乃(nai)悟唐(tang)以(yi)(yi)前无朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)砚,点(dian)勘(kan)文籍,则(ze)研朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)于杯盏(zhan);大(da)笔(bi)(bi)儒染,则(ze)贮朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)于钵。杯盏(zhan)略小而口哆(duo),以(yi)(yi)便掭笔(bi)(bi);钵稍大(da)而口敛,以(yi)(yi)便多注浓沉也(ye)。顾媪所持,盖即朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)盏(zhan),向(xiang)来赏(shang)鉴家未及(ji)见耳,急(ji)呼之(zhi)来,问(wen)此盏(zhan)何(he)往(wang)。曰:本(ben)以(yi)(yi)三(san)十钱买得,云出自井中(zhong),因公斥(chi)为(wei)无用,以(yi)(yi)二十钱卖诸杂物摊上,今(jin)将及(ji)一(yi)年,不(bu)能复问(wen)所在矣。深为(wei)惋惜。世(shi)多以(yi)(yi)高价市赝(yan)物,而真古器或(huo)往(wang)往(wang)见摈。余(yu)尚(shang)非规(gui)方竹漆断(duan)纹(wen)者,而交(jiao)臂失之(zhi)尚(shang)如此,然则(ze)蓄(xu)宝不(bu)彰者,可胜数哉!余(yu)后又得一(yi)朱(zhu)(zhu)(zhu)盏(zhan),制与此同,为(wei)陈望之(zhi)抚军持去。乃(nai)知此物世(shi)尚(shang)多有(you),第人不(bu)识耳。
先师介公野园言(yan)(yan),亲(qin)串(chuan)中有(you)不(bu)畏(wei)鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)者(zhe),闻(wen)有(you)凶宅,辄(zhe)往宿(su),或言(yan)(yan)西山(shan)某寺后阁(ge),多见(jian)变怪,是(shi)岁(sui)值乡试,因(yin)就(jiu)住其(qi)中。奇形(xing)(xing)诡状(zhuang),每(mei)夜环(huan)绕几榻间,处之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)恬然(ran),然(ran)亦(yi)弗(fu)能(neng)害(hai)也。一夕月(yue)明(ming),推窗四望,见(jian)艳女(nv)立树下,咥然(ran)曰:怖我(wo)不(bu)动(dong),来魅我(wo)耶(ye)?尔(er)(er)是(shi)何怪,可(ke)近前(qian)。女(nv)亦(yi)咥然(ran)曰:尔(er)(er)固不(bu)识我(wo),我(wo)尔(er)(er)祖姑也,殁葬(zang)此山(shan),闻(wen)尔(er)(er)日(ri)日(ri)与鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)角,尔(er)(er)读书十余(yu)年,将(jiang)徒(tu)博一不(bu)畏(wei)鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名耶(ye)?抑(yi)亦(yi)思(si)奋(fen)身科目,为(wei)祖父光,为(wei)门(men)户计耶(ye)?今夜而(er)(er)斗(dou)争,昼而(er)(er)倦卧,试期日(ri)近,举业全荒,岂尔(er)(er)父尔(er)(er)母(mu)遣尔(er)(er)裹(guo)粮入山(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)本志哉!我(wo)虽居泉壤于母(mu)家,不(bu)能(neng)无(wu)情(qing),故正(zheng)言(yan)(yan)告(gao)尔(er)(er),尔(er)(er)试思(si)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。言(yan)(yan)讫而(er)(er)隐。私(si)念所(suo)言(yan)(yan)颇有(you)理,乃束装(zhuang)归,归而(er)(er)详(xiang)问父母(mu),乃无(wu)是(shi)祖姑。大悔顿足曰:吾乃为(wei)黠鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)所(suo)卖,奋(fen)然(ran)欲再往,其(qi)友(you)曰:鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)不(bu)敢以力争,而(er)(er)幻其(qi)形(xing)(xing)以善言(yan)(yan)解,鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)畏(wei)尔(er)(er)矣,尔(er)(er)何必追穷(qiong)寇。乃止。此友(you)可(ke)谓善解纷矣。然(ran)鬼(gui)(gui)(gui)所(suo)言(yan)(yan)者(zhe)正(zheng)理也,正(zheng)理不(bu)能(neng)禁,而(er)(er)权(quan)词能(neng)禁之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),可(ke)以悟销熔刚气之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)道(dao)也。
前记阁学札公祖墓巨蟒事,据总宪舒穆鲁公之言也,壬子三月初十日,蒋少司农戟门邀看桃花,适与札公联坐,因叩其详,知舒穆鲁公之语不诬。札公又曰:尚有一轶事,舒穆鲁公未知也。守墓者之妻刘媪,恒与此蟒同寝处,蟠其榻上几满,来必饮以火酒,注巨碗中。蟒举首一嗅,酒减分许,所余已味淡如水矣。凭刘媪与人疗病,亦多有验。一旦有欲买此蟒者,给刘媪钱八千,乘其醉而舁之去。去后媪忽发狂曰:我待汝不薄,汝乃卖我,我必褫汝魄,自挝不止。媪之弟奔告札公,札公自往视,亦无如何。逾数刻竟死。夫妖物凭附女巫,事所恒有,忤妖物而致祸,亦事所恒有。惟得钱卖妖,其事颇奇,而有人出钱以买妖,尤奇之奇耳。此蟒今犹在其地,在西直门外,土人谓之红果园。
