魏知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)起诸(zhu)吏,为(wei)姚崇(chong)(chong)所(suo)引用(yong),及同升(sheng)也,崇(chong)(chong)颇轻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。无何(he),知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)拜吏部尚书,知(zhi)(zhi)东(dong)(dong)道选事(shi)。崇(chong)(chong)二(er)子(zi)(zi)并分曹洛邑,会(hui)知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)至(zhi),恃(shi)其蒙(meng)恩,颇顾请托。知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)归(gui),悉以(yi)闻(wen)。上召崇(chong)(chong),从容(rong)谓(wei)曰(yue):“卿子(zi)(zi)才(cai)乎(hu)?皆何(he)官(guan)也?又安在?”崇(chong)(chong)揣知(zhi)(zhi)上意,因奏曰(yue):“臣(chen)有三子(zi)(zi),二(er)人分司东(dong)(dong)都(dou)矣。其为(wei)人多欲(yu)而(er)寡交,以(yi)是(shi)必(bi)干(gan)知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu),然臣(chen)未及闻(wen)耳。”上始以(yi)丞相(xiang)子(zi)(zi)重言之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),欲(yu)微动(dong)崇(chong)(chong)意,若崇(chong)(chong)私(si)其子(zi)(zi),或为(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)隐;及闻(wen)所(suo)奏,大喜,且(qie)曰(yue):“卿安从知(zhi)(zhi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)?”崇(chong)(chong)曰(yue):“知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)微时(shi),是(shi)臣(chen)荐以(yi)至(zhi)荣达。臣(chen)子(zi)(zi)愚,谓(wei)知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)见德(de)必(bi)容(rong)其非,故必(bi)干(gan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”上于是(shi)明崇(chong)(chong)不私(si)子(zi)(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)过,而(er)薄知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)负崇(chong)(chong)也,欲(yu)斥之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。崇(chong)(chong)为(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)请曰(yue):“臣(chen)有子(zi)(zi)无状,挠陛(bi)下(xia)法,陛(bi)下(xia)欲(yu)特(te)原(yuan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),臣(chen)为(wei)幸大矣。而(er)由(you)臣(chen)逐知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu),海内臣(chen)庶,必(bi)以(yi)陛(bi)下(xia)为(wei)私(si)臣(chen)矣,非所(suo)以(yi)裨玄化也。”上久之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乃(nai)许(xu)。翌日,以(yi)知(zhi)(zhi)古(gu)(gu)(gu)为(wei)工部尚书,罢(ba)知(zhi)(zhi)政事(shi)。
