董文恪(ke)公(gong)为少(shao)司(si)空(kong)时,云昔在富阳村居,有(you)村叟坐邻家,闻(wen)读(du)书(shu)(shu)声,曰贵人(ren)也(ye),请相(xiang)(xiang)见(jian)。谛观再四,又(you)问八(ba)字干(gan)(gan)支,沉(chen)思良久,曰:君命(ming)相(xiang)(xiang)皆(jie)一品(pin),当某(mou)年(nian)得(de)(de)知县,某(mou)年(nian)署(shu)大县,某(mou)年(nian)实(shi)授(shou),某(mou)年(nian)迁通判,某(mou)年(nian)迁知府(fu),某(mou)年(nian)由知府(fu)迁布政(zheng),某(mou)年(nian)迁巡抚,某(mou)年(nian)迁总督(du),善(shan)自爱,他日知吾(wu)言不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)谬也(ye)。后(hou)(hou)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)再见(jian)此(ci)叟,其言亦不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)验。然细较生(sheng)(sheng)平,则所谓(wei)知县,乃(nai)(nai)由拔贡得(de)(de)户部七品(pin)官(guan)也(ye);所谓(wei)调(diao)署(shu)大县,乃(nai)(nai)庶吉士也(ye);所谓(wei)实(shi)授(shou),乃(nai)(nai)编修也(ye);所谓(wei)通判,乃(nai)(nai)中(zhong)允也(ye);所谓(wei)知府(fu),乃(nai)(nai)侍(shi)读(du)学士也(ye);所谓(wei)布政(zheng)使,乃(nai)(nai)内(nei)阁学士也(ye);所谓(wei)巡抚,乃(nai)(nai)工部侍(shi)郎也(ye)。品(pin)秩(zhi)皆(jie)符(fu),其年(nian)亦皆(jie)符(fu),特(te)内(nei)外异(yi)途耳。是其言验而不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)验,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)验而验,惟未知总督(du)如(ru)何。后(hou)(hou)公(gong)以其年(nian)拜礼部尚书(shu)(shu),品(pin)秩(zhi)仍符(fu),按推算干(gan)(gan)支,或奇验,或全不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)验,或半验半不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)验。余尝于(yu)闻(wen)见(jian)最(zui)确者,反复(fu)深思,八(ba)字贵贱(jian)贫富,特(te)大略(lve)如(ru)是,其间乘除(chu)盈缩,略(lve)有(you)异(yi)同。无锡邹小山先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)夫(fu)人(ren)与安州(zhou)(zhou)陈(chen)密山先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)夫(fu)人(ren),八(ba)字干(gan)(gan)支并(bing)同。小山先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)官(guan)礼部侍(shi)郎,密山先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)官(guan)贵州(zhou)(zhou)布政(zheng)使,均二品(pin)也(ye),论(lun)爵,布政(zheng)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)及(ji)(ji)侍(shi)郎之(zhi)尊;论(lun)禄,则侍(shi)郎不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)及(ji)(ji)布政(zheng)之(zhi)厚,互(hu)相(xiang)(xiang)补矣(yi)。二夫(fu)人(ren)并(bing)寿考。陈(chen)夫(fu)人(ren)早寡,然晚岁康(kang)强安乐;邹夫(fu)人(ren)白首齐眉,然晚岁丧子(zi),家计亦薄,又(you)相(xiang)(xiang)补矣(yi)。此(ci)或疑地有(you)南北,时有(you)初正(zheng)也(ye)。余第六(liu)侄(zhi)与奴(nu)子(zi)刘云鹏,生(sheng)(sheng)时只(zhi)隔一墙,两(liang)窗相(xiang)(xiang)对,两(liang)儿并(bing)落蓐(ru)啼(ti),非惟时同刻同,乃(nai)(nai)至分秒亦同。侄(zhi)至十六(liu)岁而夭,奴(nu)子(zi)今尚在,岂(qi)非此(ci)命(ming)所赋之(zhi)禄,只(zhi)有(you)此(ci)数:侄(zhi)生(sheng)(sheng)长(zhang)富贵,消(xiao)耗先(xian)尽;奴(nu)子(zi)生(sheng)(sheng)长(zhang)贫贱(jian),消(xiao)耗无多,禄尚未尽耶?盈虚消(xiao)息(xi),理固如(ru)斯,俟知命(ming)者更详(xiang)之(zhi)。
曾伯祖光吉公(gong),康熙(xi)初(chu)官(guan)(guan)(guan)镇番守备,云有李(li)太学(xue)妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi),恒虐(nve)其(qi)(qi)(qi)妾(qie)(qie)(qie),怒辄褫下衣鞭(bian)之(zhi)(zhi),殆(dai)(dai)无(wu)(wu)虚(xu)日(ri)。里有老媪能入冥,所谓(wei)走无(wu)(wu)常(chang)者(zhe)是(shi)(shi)也,规其(qi)(qi)(qi)妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)曰:娘(niang)(niang)子(zi)(zi)与(yu)(yu)是(shi)(shi)妾(qie)(qie)(qie)有夙冤,然应偿二百鞭(bian)耳(er),今妒(du)心(xin)炽(chi)盛,鞭(bian)之(zhi)(zhi)殆(dai)(dai)过十余倍,又(you)负彼债矣。且良妇(fu)受(shou)刑(xing),虽官(guan)(guan)(guan)法不(bu)(bu)褫衣,娘(niang)(niang)子(zi)(zi)必(bi)使裸(luo)露以(yi)(yi)示辱,事太快(kuai)意(yi),则干鬼神之(zhi)(zhi)忌。娘(niang)(niang)子(zi)(zi)与(yu)(yu)我厚(hou),窃见冥籍,不(bu)(bu)敢不(bu)(bu)相闻(wen)。妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)哂曰:死(si)(si)媪谩语(yu),欲(yu)我禳(rang)解取(qu)钱耶?会(hui)经略(lve)莫(mo)落,遘王辅(fu)臣之(zhi)(zhi)变(bian),乱党 蜂起(qi),李(li)殁于(yu)兵,妾(qie)(qie)(qie)为(wei)(wei)副(fu)将韩(han)(han)(han)公(gong)所得,喜其(qi)(qi)(qi)明慧,宠 专(zhuan)房(fang)(fang),韩(han)(han)(han)公(gong)无(wu)(wu)正室,家(jia)政遂操(cao)于(yu)妾(qie)(qie)(qie)。妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)为(wei)(wei)贼(zei)所掠(lve),贼(zei)破(po)被俘,分赏将士,恰归韩(han)(han)(han)公(gong)。妾(qie)(qie)(qie)蓄(xu)以(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)婢,使跪于(yu)堂而(er)语(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)曰:尔(er)(er)能受(shou)我指(zhi)挥,每日(ri)晨起(qi),先跪妆台前自褫下衣,伏(fu)地受(shou)五鞭(bian),然后供役,则贷(dai)尔(er)(er)命。否(fou)则尔(er)(er)为(wei)(wei)贼(zei)党 妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi),杀之(zhi)(zhi)无(wu)(wu)禁(jin),当寸寸脔尔(er)(er),饲(si)犬豕。妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)惮死(si)(si)失志,叩首愿(yuan)遵教。然妾(qie)(qie)(qie)不(bu)(bu)欲(yu)其(qi)(qi)(qi)遽死(si)(si),鞭(bian)不(bu)(bu)甚毒,俾知痛楚而(er)已,年余乃以(yi)(yi)他疾死(si)(si),计其(qi)(qi)(qi)鞭(bian)数适相当。此妇(fu)真(zhen)顽钝无(wu)(wu)耻哉。亦鬼神所忌,阴夺其(qi)(qi)(qi)魄也。此事韩(han)(han)(han)公(gong)不(bu)(bu)自讳,且举以(yi)(yi)明果报(bao)。故人知其(qi)(qi)(qi)详。韩(han)(han)(han)公(gong)又(you)言,此犹显易(yi)其(qi)(qi)(qi)位(wei)也。明季尝游(you)襄邓(deng) 间,与(yu)(yu)术士张鸳湖(hu)同(tong)舍,鸳湖(hu)稔知居停(ting)主人妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi) 虐(nve)妾(qie)(qie)(qie)太甚,积(ji)不(bu)(bu)平,私(si)语(yu)曰:道(dao)家(jia)有借(jie)形法,几修炼未成,气血已衰,不(bu)(bu)能还丹(dan)者(zhe),则借(jie)一壮(zhuang)盛之(zhi)(zhi)躯,乘其(qi)(qi)(qi)睡(shui)与(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)互易(yi)。吾尝受(shou)此法,姑试(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)。次日(ri),其(qi)(qi)(qi)家(jia)忽闻(wen)妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)在妾(qie)(qie)(qie)房(fang)(fang)语(yu),妾(qie)(qie)(qie)在妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)房(fang)(fang)语(yu)。比出(chu)(chu)户,则作(zuo)妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)语(yu)者(zhe)妾(qie)(qie)(qie),作(zuo)妾(qie)(qie)(qie)语(yu)者(zhe)妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)也。妾(qie)(qie)(qie)得妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)身(shen),但默坐;妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)得妾(qie)(qie)(qie)身(shen),殊不(bu)(bu)甘。纷纭争执,亲族不(bu)(bu)能判。鸣之(zhi)(zhi)官(guan)(guan)(guan),官(guan)(guan)(guan)怒为(wei)(wei)妖妄(wang),笞其(qi)(qi)(qi)夫,逐出(chu)(chu),皆无(wu)(wu)可如何。然据形而(er)论,妻(qi)(qi)(qi)(qi)实(shi)是(shi)(shi)妾(qie)(qie)(qie)。不(bu)(bu)在其(qi)(qi)(qi)位(wei),威不(bu)(bu)能行,竟分宅各居而(er)终。此事尤奇也。
相传(chuan)(chuan)有(you)位塾(shu)师(shi),夏夜(ye)月明,率门(men)(men)人(ren)(ren)纳凉河间献王(wang)(wang)祠外田塍上,因共讲三百篇拟题(ti),音琅琅如钟(zhong)鼓,又令(ling)小儿诵孝(xiao)经,诵已(yi)复讲。忽举(ju)首(shou)见祠门(men)(men)双古柏(bo)下,隐隐有(you)人(ren)(ren),试近之(zhi)(zhi),形(xing)状颇异,知为神鬼。然(ran)(ran)私念此(ci)(ci)献王(wang)(wang)祠前(qian),决无妖魅。前(qian)问姓名(ming),曰(yue):毛苌、贯(guan)长卿、颜芝因谒王(wang)(wang)至此(ci)(ci)。塾(shu)师(shi)大喜,再拜(bai)请授(shou)经义(yi)。毛贯(guan)并曰(yue):君所讲话已(yi)闻,都非我辈(bei)所解,无从奉(feng)答。塾(shu)师(shi)又拜(bai)曰(yue):诗义(yi)深微,难授(shou)下愚。请颜先生一(yi)讲孝(xiao)经可乎?颜回面向(xiang)内(nei)曰(yue):君小儿所诵,漏落(luo)颠倒,全非我所传(chuan)(chuan)本,我亦无可著语(yu)处。俄闻传(chuan)(chuan)王(wang)(wang)教(jiao)曰(yue):门(men)(men)外似有(you)人(ren)(ren)醉语(yu),聒耳已(yi)久,可驱之(zhi)(zhi)去。余谓此(ci)(ci)与爱堂先生所言学(xue)究(jiu)遇冥吏(li)事,皆博雅之(zhi)(zhi)士(shi),造戏语(yu)以诟(gou)俗儒也(ye)。然(ran)(ran)亦空穴来风(feng),桐乳(ru)来巢乎?
先姚安公性(xing)严峻(jun),门无杂宾(bin)。一日与(yu)一褴褛人(ren)对语,呼(hu)余兄弟与(yu)为礼,曰:此宋(song)曼(man)殊(shu)曾(ceng)孙,不(bu)相(xiang)闻久矣(yi),今乃见(jian)之。明(ming)季兵乱,汝(ru)曾(ceng)祖年十一,流(liu)离(li)戈马间,赖宋(song)曼(man)殊(shu)得存也(ye)。乃为委(wei)曲(qu)谋生(sheng)计,因戒余兄弟曰:义所(suo)当报,不(bu)必(bi)谈因果,然(ran)因果实亦不(bu)爽。昔(xi)某公受人(ren)再(zai)生(sheng)恩,富贵后,视其子孙零替(ti),漠(mo)如(ru)陌路。后病(bing)困,方服药,恍惚见(jian)其人(ren)手授二札,皆未(wei)封。视之,则当年乞救书(shu)也(ye),覆杯于地,曰:吾死晚矣(yi)。是夕卒。
宋按察蒙(meng)泉(quan)言,某公(gong)在明为谏官,尝扶乩问寿数,仙判某年某月(yue)某日(ri)当死,计(ji)期不远,恒悒(yi)悒(yi),届期乃(nai)无(wu)恙。后入(ru)本朝,至九(jiu)列。适同僚家抚乩,前仙又(you)降(jiang),某公(gong)叩(kou)以(yi)所判无(wu)验,又(you)判曰:君不死我奈何?某公(gong)俯(fu)仰沉思,忽命驾去,盖(gai)所判正(zheng)甲申(shen)三月(yue)十九(jiu)日(ri)也。
沉椒园先生(sheng)为鳌(ao)峰书(shu)(shu)院山长时,见示高(gao)邑赵(zhao)忠毅(yi)(yi)公旧砚(yan),额有(you)(you)东方(fang)未明之(zhi)(zhi)砚(yan)六字(zi),背有(you)(you)铭曰(yue):“残月荧(ying)荧(ying),太(tai)白耿(geng)耿(geng),鸡三号,更五点(dian),此时拜疏(shu)击大奄,事成(cheng)策汝(ru)功,不成(cheng)同汝(ru)贬”。盖核魏忠贤(xian)时用此砚(yan)草(cao)疏(shu)也。末(mo)有(you)(you)小字(zi)一行题门人(ren)(ren)王(wang)铎(duo)书(shu)(shu)。此行遗(yi)未镌(juan),而黑痕(hen)深入石骨,干则(ze)不见。取水(shui)濯(zhuo)之(zhi)(zhi),则(ze)五字(zi)炳然。相传初令王(wang)铎(duo)书(shu)(shu)此铭,未及镌(juan)而难(nan)作(zuo),后(hou)在(zai)戍(shu)所乃镌(juan)之(zhi)(zhi),语工勿镌(juan)此一行。然阅一百余年(nian),涤之(zhi)(zhi)不去,其事颇(po)可。或曰(yue):忠毅(yi)(yi)嫉恶(e)严(yan)。鱼洋山人(ren)(ren)笔记(ji)称铎(duo)人(ren)(ren)品(pin)日下,书(shu)(shu)品(pin)亦(yi)日下。然则(ze)忠毅(yi)(yi)先有(you)(you)所见矣,削其名,摈(bin)之(zhi)(zhi)也。涤之(zhi)(zhi)不去,欲著其尝为忠毅(yi)(yi)所摈(bin)也。天地鬼神,恒于一事偶露其巧(qiao),使人(ren)(ren)知警,是或然欤。
乾隆庚午,官库失玉器,勘诸苑户,苑户常明对簿时,忽作童子声曰:玉器非所窃,人则真所杀,我即所杀之魂也。问官大骇,移送刑部。姚安公时为江 苏司郎中,与余公文仪等同鞫之,魂曰:,我名二格,年十四,家在海淀,父曰李星望,前岁上元,常明引我观灯归,夜深人寂,常明戏调我,我方力拒,且言归当诉诸父,常明遂以衣带勒我死,埋河岸下。父疑常明匿我,控诸巡城,送刑部,以事无左证,议别缉真凶。我魂恒随常明行,但相去四五尺,即觉炽如烈焰,不得近,后热稍减,渐近至二三尺,又渐近至尺许,昨乃都不觉热,始得附之。又言初讯时,魂亦随之刑部,指其门乃广西司。按所言月日,果检得旧案。问其尸,云在河岸第几柳树旁,掘之亦得,尚未坏。呼其父使辨识,长恸曰:吾儿也。以事虽幻杳,而证验皆真,且讯问时呼常明名,则忽似梦醒,作常明语。呼二格名,则忽似昏醉,作二格语。互辩数四始款伏。又父子絮语家事,一一分明,狱无可疑,乃以实状上闻。论如律。命下之日,魂喜甚,本卖糕为活,忽高唱卖糕一声,父泣曰:久不闻此,宛然生时声也。问儿当何往,曰:吾亦不知,且去耳。自是再问常明,不复作二格语矣。
