犹忆二十六年秋,卢沟桥(qiao)事变之际(ji),我从南京回杭(hang)州,中途(tu)在(zai)上海下车,到(dao)梧州路去看夏先生(sheng)(sheng)。先生(sheng)(sheng)满面(mian)忧愁,说(shuo)一(yi)(yi)句(ju)话,叹(tan)一(yi)(yi)口气。我因为(wei)要乘当天的(de)(de)夜车返(fan)杭(hang),匆(cong)匆(cong)告别。我说(shuo):“夏先生(sheng)(sheng)再见(jian)(jian)。”夏先生(sheng)(sheng)好像骂我一(yi)(yi)般愤然地答道:“不晓得能不能再见(jian)(jian)!”同时又用(yong)凝注的(de)(de)眼光,站(zhan)立在(zai)门口目(mu)送我。因为(wei)夏先生(sheng)(sheng)老是善愁,而我总是笑他(ta)多(duo)忧。岂知这一(yi)(yi)次正是我们的(de)(de)最后一(yi)(yi)面(mian),果然这一(yi)(yi)别“不能再见(jian)(jian)”了(le)!
